Save the World

Jack, this is a little old, but deserving of being on here. We had some "fits and starts" to getting your graduation speech ready. It wasn't until Big Michael came by for dinner one night when he gave you an idea that helped make this happen. He said, "just talk about what you want to talk about." So you ditched the whole, "I remember in kindergarten, blah, blah, blah" thing and wrote about saving the world.

Here it is.

A lot of my classmates are going to talk about this school, but I’m going to talk about something different, something bigger. I’m talking about tikun olam. Tikun olam means repairing the world.

There is argument on what this means, but I believe it’s a call to action in order to save the environment. You can help in your home by reducing, reusing, recycling, and rethinking. Rethinking means using a used think for a new purpose, like a milk carton flower pot, or something. Of course you could just get fluorescent bulbs. You can help in your community by telling others, picking up litter etc.

And you can help the whole world by going to rallies, sending letters to congressmen, and donating to charities. Of course, I’m not saying that you have to do this, but if you feel as strongly about our world as I do don’t be afraid to help out.

We were very proud to be your parents that day - and every day since. Oh, and you looked incredibly handsome in your suit.

Love,

Dad
